Aga Khan University launches Covid 19 self-screening apps

The Aga Khan University Digital Health Resource Centre has designed two mobile apps for Covid-19 household evaluations and teaching health workers about the Covid-19 virus.

The two apps- Personal Protective Equipment Mobile Application (PPEMA), and CovidCheck, will be utilized alongside other inventions in the protection and management of the disease. CovidCheck will be used to provide information about health systems through  self-assessment, fast responses and resolutions to high-risk populations.

PPEMA, on the other hand, will inform health workers about individual protective gear and best practice strategies. According to Dr Simon Onsongo, a pathologist at the Aga Khan Hospital, PPEMA will equip health workers with substitute techniques of individual protective gears with the assistance of online videos that are available on the app.

The apps can be found on the Google app store. “Once they are installed successfully, a patient alleged to have contracted the virus is supposed to riposte a set of eleven questions,” said Dr Onsongo.

According to Kisumu County Health Director Fredrick Oluoch, the apps will help reduce hospital visits and overcrowding.

The two innovations will be piloted in Mombasa and Kisumu counties for the next two years.
