Stress linked with eating disorders
People who cope poorly with stress, especially women, are more likely to develop an eating disorder, according to a report by psychologists at the Institute of Psychiatry in the UK. Stress is common before the onset of the eating disorder, particularly with relationship problems and a severe event where the person feels helpless in response to the crisis. The psychologists add that other factors play a role in the development of eating disorders, including genetics, low self-esteem, dieting and perfection.
