DEPRESSION Almost ruined their marriage

Nathan and Ciru Katua have been married for 10 years. They are both missionaries and are currently setting up a campsite, retreat and training centre in Machakos. They narrate to EDNA GICOVI how a four-year long struggle with burnout and depression nearly broke their marriage and the lessons they learned from their experiences.

 

“There’s a story Nathan likes to tell about marriage being like making mashed potatoes,” says Ciru. Her husband Nathan keeps interrupting her narration to fill in the parts she has missed. “I think I lost the plot somewhere.
