Former President Moi is dead

  • PublishedFebruary 4, 2020

Kenya has today lost one of the most prolific figures in its history – former President Moi is dead.

The proclamation of his death was made Tuesday morning by President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the same was confirmed by his Press Secretary Lee Njiru.

He had been receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital when he passed on at 95.

The retired President ruled Kenya for 24 years, having taken over from Jomo Kenyatta – Kenya’s first president and father of Kenya’s current president.

Upon the end of his tenure, he endorsed Uhuru Kenyatta as his successor, but it would be another 5 years before the latter rose to the helm of the country.

The late Moi is survived by seven children: Gideon (Baringo Senator), Raymond (Rongai MP), Jeniffer, June, Philip, John-Mark and Doris.
