Greasy Love: Actress Ketrai Damaris Confirms Romance with Her Mechanic

Greasy Love: Actress Ketrai Damaris Confirms Romance with Her Mechanic
  • PublishedFebruary 24, 2026

Popular Kenyan actress Ketrai Damaris, known for her role as Aunt Loretta on Zora, has sent social media into a frenzy after officially confirming her romantic relationship with a man she identifies as her mechanic, popularly known as Kaka Boy.

The revelation came during a candid interview on the Oga Obinna Show, where the couple appeared together to share their unconventional love story. Ketrai, known for her authoritative roles in various TV series, revealed that the two have been dating for approximately two months, though they have known each other for over a year.

How they met

According to the actress, the sparks didn’t fly instantly. She first met Kaka Boy at his workplace, a garage in Mwiki Transformers.

“I used to go to that garage several times to fix my car. I noticed how hardworking and dedicated he was,” Ketrai shared during the interview. She admitted to being the one who “shot her shot,” teasing him initially by asking if he liked older women, before eventually expressing her feelings

For his part, Kaka Boy admitted he was initially shocked by the attention from a celebrity. “I never expected something like this to happen in my life,” he said, noting that Ketrai’s authoritative TV persona is quite different from the woman he has grown to love.

Netizens react

The news has sparked a heated debate across TikTok and Instagram, with opinions divided:

  • Many have praised Ketrai for her humility and for choosing true love over societal expectations of status. Comments like “Love has no boundaries” and “This is the most authentic Kenyan love story” have dominated the net.

  • Some netizens have expressed concern for the mechanic, suggesting he might be out of his depth. During the show, Obinna read comments from fans claiming Ketrai “controls him” because of his shy demeanour on camera.

  • A section of followers labelled the relationship a clout-chasing stunt, accusing the actress of using the mechanic to boost her social media engagement.

Spectacle or for real?

In the Kenyan celebrity scene, the publicity stunt is a standard marketing tactic. A prime example is the 2022 saga between Tanzanian singer Juma Jux and Kenyan socialite Huddah Monroe. The duo dominated headlines for weeks with baecation photos and romantic exchanges in Dubai, leading fans to believe they were East Africa’s power couple. However, once the hype peaked, it was revealed to be a scripted situationship purely to promote Jux’s music video, Simuachi. Like Jux and Huddah, celebrities often use these dramatic reveals and professional contrasts to stay relevant.

However, during their appearance on the Obinna Show, there were glimpses of genuine vulnerability. Kaka Boy’s shyness and Ketrai’s defence of his character, noting that he still works at the garage despite their newfound fame, suggest a level of groundedness not usually seen.

While the spectacle of their romance certainly helps their digital brands, the fact that they are already discussing marriage and introduction to parents suggests that, for now, the engine of this relationship is running on more than just clout. Whether it survives the high pressure of Kenyan celebrity culture remains to be seen.
