LECTURERS STRIKE CALLED OFF
The 54-day long lecturers strike has been called off.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) announced earlier today that a collective bargaining agreement, which included a 17.5 per cent pay hike,had been reached with the government.
Classes are set to resume this Tuesday.Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i warned that no lecturer would be paid until they resume work.
Days earlier,the dons had rejected a second salary increase offer of 18 per cent insisting that they would only take 30 per cent salary increase.
UASU secretary general Dr Constantine Wasonga assured UASU members that the deal was the “best settlement under the prevailing circumstances.”
