Massive Walkout at Kangaru Schools: Both Institutions Closed Indefinitely
A wave of unrest has led to the indefinite closure of both Kangaru Boys and Kangaru Girls High Schools, following a mass walkout that saw hundreds of students taking to the streets of Embu under the cover of night.

The situation escalated late Sunday evening when students from the girls’ institution began leaving the school premises in large numbers. Shortly after, their counterparts from the neighbouring boys’ school followed suit, resulting in a rare, synchronised departure from two of the region’s most prominent national schools.
By Monday morning, the school administrations, in conjunction with local education officials, officially suspended operations. Students were instructed to vacate the premises indefinitely as authorities began investigating the circumstances that triggered the mass exit.
The sudden presence of hundreds of students in Embu town late at night, compounded by heavy rainfall, created a scene of high anxiety. Many students were spotted carrying their belongings, appearing stranded and soaked as they navigated the dark streets.
In response, the local community and business owners quickly mobilised to ensure the safety of the learners.
As the rain intensified, several local establishments transformed into makeshift transit centres.
Current status
While the physical gates are closed, the focus is on the safety of those who left during the night.
