Kenya’s long-distance running sensation Beatrice Chebet has officially stepped into the most rewarding race of her life. The double Olympic and World champion announced the arrival of her first child, born on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Chebet posted a touching social media update featuring her newborn’s tiny hands and feet.
“Tiny hands, tiny feet, and a love so big. A beautiful new chapter begins. Welcome to our world, sweet baby boy.” Beatrice Chebet
Track to motherhood Chebet’s transition into motherhood follows two of the most dominant seasons ever witnessed in women’s distance running. The 26-year-old solidified her legendary status with a series of historic milestones:
The Paris Double (2024): Became the first Kenyan woman to win Olympic gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m events.
The Sub-14 Barrier: Made history at the Prefontaine Classic by becoming the first female athlete to shatter the 14-minute mark in the 5,000m, clocking a world-record time of 13:58.06.
World Championship Mastery (2025): Replicated her Olympic dominance by securing gold in both disciplines at the World Championships in Tokyo.
Surrounded by love and a strong support system
The birth comes weeks after her husband, athletics coach Peter Bii, threw her a surprise baby shower in Eldoret. The intimate celebration was star-studded, attended by her training partner and legendary triple Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon, alongside Peres Jepchirchir.
Chebet has frequently expressed gratitude for the village supporting her. She recognises how crucial a strong foundation is for balancing life at the peak of elite sport.
