President Ruto dismisses entire cabinet
President William Ruto has dismissed the cabinet secretaries of the cabinet of Kenya and the Attorney General, Justin Muturi, with immediate effect.
Ruto made these remarks on Thursday, July 11, during a press release that the citizens were earlier informed about.
According to the president, he made this announcement after a careful reflection and review of the Cabinet’s performance.
“I have, in line with the powers given to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from the Cabinet of the Republic of Kenya,” said Ruto.
The president however exempted the Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, specifying that the office of the Deputy President is not affected.
He added, “the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials.”
For the past few weeks, the country has been experiencing unrest with citizens, especially the Gen Zs protesting against the Finance Bill 2023/2024.
The president bowed down to the demands and withdrew the Finance Bill. From his statement today, the bill will be reviewed and reorganized.
Additionally, Ruto highlighted areas where his government has delivered, which according to him included reduction of farm inputs’ prices, rolling out the Hustler Fund, establishing the Affordable Housing Programme among others.
In conclusion, the president said that he will be addressing additional measures in due course.
