Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are hunting two gunmen. The armed men raided a hair salon in Nairobi’s Saika estate on Sunday afternoon. They robbed members of a local women’s investment group.
The robbery happened at around 3:00 PM on 27th July during a meeting of the Queen’s Women Chama. Security camera footage shows two unidentified men entering the salon. They posed as visitors before ambossing the group.
One suspect pulled a handgun from his waistband and cocked it. He ordered the terrified women to lie on the floor and surrender their valuables.
“Nyamaza kaa chini! Leta simu!” the gunman shouted in the viral video.
The assailants fled with Sh50,000 in cash from the chama table. They also stole a Samsung Galaxy A17 smartphone and other personal belongings. Several women, including one holding a young child, ran out shouting for help. Nobody suffered physical injuries during the attack.
Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud confirmed that Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers gathered forensic evidence. Police are currently pursuing active leads.
“Our officers are actively tracking the suspects,” Mohamud stated. He assured the public that police have increased security operations across the capital.
The viral video drew sharp reactions from city residents. Many are calling on the National Police Service to increase neighborhood patrols.
