Shock After Mother Arrested for Allegedly Killing Three Children
Parents across the country are reeling after a heartbreaking incident in Machakos County, where a woman has been arrested following the deaths of her three young children.
Police have identified the suspect as Linet Munala, who was taken into custody after authorities alleged that a toxic substance was mixed into porridge given to the children at their apartment in Mlolongo. The children were later discovered unresponsive in separate beds.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident is believed to be linked to a domestic dispute. The woman reportedly accused her husband, who was in Nairobi at the time, of infidelity. Concern was raised after neighbours said they were asked to check on the children, prompting them to alert authorities.
Ms Munala is currently being held at Mlolongo Police Station* as investigations continue.
A wake-up call for families
While investigations are ongoing and the matter remains before the law, this tragedy has once again brought into sharp focus the devastating consequences unresolved domestic conflict and emotional distress can have on families—especially children, who are often the most vulnerable.
For parents and caregivers, the incident underscores the importance of seeking help during moments of crisis. Relationship challenges, mental strain, and feelings of betrayal or isolation can feel overwhelming, but they should never be carried alone.
Where to turn for help
Family counsellors and child welfare experts consistently emphasise early intervention. Trusted family members, religious leaders, professional counsellors, and community-based support systems can play a critical role in helping parents navigate difficult seasons.
Neighbours, friends, and extended family also have a responsibility to speak up when something feels wrong. As this case shows, a timely response can be the difference between life and loss.

At Parents Magazine, we believe that every child deserves safety, care, and protection, especially during times of adult conflict.
