Shock as 7 needles were discovered in a baby's body
Medics and relatives alike were shocked when a 3-year-old girl was discovered with needles in her body.
The girl, only referred to as Chepchumba by her grandmother in an article by the Daily Nation, was found to have seven sewing needles.
5 were in her stomach and 2 in her back, following an X-ray scan at Kapenguria County Referral Hospital in West Pokot.
The child had been complaining of frequent stomach pains to her grandmother.
Her grandparents would give her painkillers to ease the pains.
According to the grandmother, her mother eloped with another man leaving the child in the grandparents care.
Medics who have sought police intervention suspect foul play and have ruled out the chance of the child having swallowed the needles by herself.
Her grandparents have denied having a hand in the matter. They say they are just as puzzled as to how it happened.
A similar incident happened in Kiambu County in 2017.
A 10-month-old child was discovered with 14 needles in her body. The parents of the child were charged before a court of law with an offense of subjecting the child to torture.
