TikTok Enhances Digital Safety with New Parental Controls and Teen Well-Being Features

TikTok has introduced a new suite of safety and well-being tools aimed at helping families foster healthier digital habits for teens.
The latest updates to Family Pairing provide parents with greater oversight while promoting mindful screen time among younger users. Since launching Family Pairing five years ago, TikTok has continuously expanded its safety features based on expert recommendations and community feedback.
The new tools include Time Away Scheduling, which allows parents to set screen-free periods, Expanded Family Visibility to monitor interactions, and Proactive Reporting Alerts, enabling teens to notify a trusted adult when reporting content.
Additionally, TikTok has introduced a Wind-Down Feature, which encourages users under 16 to log off at night with a full-screen reminder and calming music.
“At TikTok, safety is at the core of everything we do. These new updates are part of our ongoing commitment to empowering families with the tools they need to foster healthy digital habits. By enhancing Family Pairing, strengthening our industry partnerships, and introducing innovative well-being features, we’re ensuring that young users can explore, create, and connect in a safe and positive online environment,” said Adam Presser, Head of Operations & Trust and Safety at TikTok.
Strengthening Digital Safety Through Partnerships
Beyond platform updates, TikTok is reinforcing digital safety in Kenya through its #SaferTogether campaign, launched in 2023.
In collaboration with Eveminet Communication Solutions Limited, the initiative has directly engaged over 390,000 students, 6,504 parents, and 5,307 teachers in digital safety workshops.
The program will expand to 42 counties across Kenya in 2025, further solidifying TikTok’s role in online safety education.
Kenyan Representation in the Global Youth Council
TikTok is also expanding its Global Youth Council, which was established in 2023 to amplify teen voices on safety, well-being, and inclusivity.
The 2025 cohort now includes 28 members from 15 countries, with Kenya maintaining its representation alongside new members from Nigeria, Cameroon, Canada, Qatar, and Australia.
Ongoing Commitment to Online Safety
TikTok continues to collaborate with global experts to enhance age verification and digital security.
The platform is integrating machine learning technology and working with mobile service providers to ensure age-appropriate experiences.
Additionally, TikTok remains an active participant in the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Age Assurance, alongside organizations such as the Centre for Information Policy Leadership and WeProtect Global Alliance, to set industry standards for digital safety.
With these initiatives, TikTok reaffirms its commitment to creating a safer, more supportive online environment for teens and families worldwide.
