Two women have been arrested and a firearm seized after a chilling WhatsApp status posted by one of them warning that any man who dared to break up with her would face dire consequences.

Sharon Auma and Nancy Atieno Obura were taken into custody by detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau in Nyanza Region, working jointly with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nyando.

The arrest was triggered by a social media post in which Auma was seen brandishing a pistol. Acting swiftly on the viral post, officers tracked down Auma in Awasi town, Kisumu County.

During interrogation, she led investigators to a rented two-bedroom house owned by her friend and co-accused, Nancy. Inside the house, officers recovered a Canik pistol hidden in a basin beneath the bed, wrapped in clothes. Though the magazine was empty, the weapon raised immediate concern.

“A thorough search of the house turned up the pistol in question, with an empty magazine, cleverly wrapped in clothes and stashed in a basin under the bed,” said the DCI through their X post.

Authorities also seized a fake motorcycle number plate registered as KMGG 805M, which was found at the scene.

Both women are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing pending arraignment. Investigations are ongoing as detectives pursue additional suspects linked to the illegal possession of the firearm.

The arrest highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media and illegal firearms, as authorities work to curb threats to public safety in the region.
