A report released by the Ministry of Health Family division says adolescent girls aged 10-19 were pregnant between July 2016 and June 2017.

“Primary school pupils are having sex too early and this is majorly attributed to the overwhelming economic and social burden on families” says Dr Jeanne the Programme manager.

Furthermore the majority of those in these group are at their last levels of Primary school.

“Girls below the age of 19 account for 17 percent of all women who seek care for abortion-related complications,” she says.

Sexual violence was also reported to be more rampant.

The report suggested that the new 2-6-6-3 education system should emphasise health education to curb the growing numbers.
