Auxillia Mnangagwa: Zimbabwe's little-known new first lady
As heaving crowds at the national sports stadium in Harare cheered their new leader, television cameras panned over Emmerson Mnangagwa and his wife, Auxillia, who sat next to him in a smart white suit.
Mrs Mnangagwa now finds herself in a peculiar kind of spotlight, given the global attention – and controversy – that her predecessor courted.
Grace Mugabe, the 52-year-old wife of the 93-year-old former president, was known for her expensive shopping sprees, hot temper and mounting political ambitions which, in the end, proved to be part of her husband’s downfall.
Mrs Mnangagwa, by contrast, is a relatively unknown figure, only having recently entered public life after she was elected as a Zanu-PF parliamentarian in 2014 in her husband’s constituency after he moved into the vice presidency.
