What to Note Before Your First Maternity Photo shoot
  • PublishedJuly 28, 2024

So, you’re expecting your little one and probably thinking about capturing the memory. Congratulations! capturing this special time is such a beautiful way to celebrate your journey to motherhood.

Imagine yourself dressed in a gorgeous outfit that makes you look like a queen and the camera is capturing every tender moment of your gorgeous bump. Sounds dreamy, right! But if it’s your first time planning a maternity shoot, you might be wondering where to start.

Although the photos look good a photo shoot can be tedious. Here’s what you should note to help you plan the perfect maternity photo shoot that is as stress-free and fun as possible:

Before the Photo shoot

Finding a photographer who fits your wants is crucial. To find the best photographer, peruse through their portfolio and see whether you like their content. Do the photos speak to you? Do you see yourself in the photos? Do you like the lighting? At the end of it all, you don’t want to be a victim of ‘what I ordered Versus what I got’

After finding your photographer, scout for inspos. Get to apps like Pinterest or Instagram and search for outfits, poses, and locations based on what you like. Save the outfits and poses for D-day. If you have any doubts or questions, communicate them with your photographer for more suggestions.

Schedule your hair, nail, and make-up appointments on time. If you are not familiar with the make-up artist, schedule a different appointment to test their skills and see what appeals to you most.

When shopping for clothes, shoes, make-up, and hair, consult with your photographer for advice. Depending on the location and the inspo, they might offer a better suggestion on the colors, prints, or fabric to choose from.

When to schedule the shoot

The size of the baby determines the maternity shoot. It is advisable to make the shooting appointment between 28 weeks- 36 weeks, when you still have the energy. If you are expecting twins, 28- 32 weeks would be ideal, while 34-36 weeks would be suitable for pregnant moms with smaller baby bumps.

During

On the day of the photo session, arrive before time. This will enable you familiarize with the place and practice your poses  prior to the actual shoot. It will also allow the photographer to take as many photos as possible and give you the chance to point out mistakes you would like to be edited.

You can always tag a friend along for assistance; in any case you’ll be changing outfits. They can as well help you pose and take Behind the Scene photos or videos
