Lip care guide to smooth, shiny lips

Lip care guide to smooth, shiny lips
  • PublishedAugust 10, 2024

Like every makeup product, applying lip products requires a clean, smooth, and well-moisturized canvas. Clean and smooth lips give the best lipstick or lip gloss application. Here is how to take care of your lips.

Exfoliate

Exfoliating, just like it does on your body, gives you smooth and clean lips. Exfoliate your lips daily if you apply gloss or lipstick on a daily. For gentle everyday exfoliation, use a soft brittle toothbrush. After brushing your teeth, clean your toothbrush to remove any toothpaste. Then in light circular motions brush your lips. This also helps remove any remaining lip products.

Lip masks

I have extremely dry skin. Which means I have drier lips. As I enjoy a good lip gloss, I must add moisture to my lips. My go-to lip mask is a thin layer of honey. After exfoliating my lips, I apply a thin layer of natural honey and go to bed. The next morning, I wake up to soft and moisturized lips. Just like a face mask moisturizes your lips, so do lip masks. As there are varieties of store-bought lip masks, it is essential that you buy one that fits your needs. Check the purpose of the lip mask and the ingredients for these.

Avoid liking your lips

As a survivor of lip licking, I am here to tell you, that it is possible to stop licking your lips. Saliva further dries your lips, and although it seems to offer instant relief to dry lips, it worsens the situation. In 2018, I would lick my very dry lips. This would lead to even drier lips and sometimes they would crack. To stop, I applied a thick layer of Vaseline. Have you ever tasted petroleum jelly? It has such an unpleasant taste that I just had to stop licking my lips.

Purchase the right lip products

As mentioned, while buying products, check the ingredient list. This prevents you from purchasing products you are allergic to or those that worsen your situation. Purchase a lip gloss with more oils than a lip gloss base to avoid milky and sticky lip gloss. More oils in a lip gloss keep your lips moisturized and soft. It is also important that you check the expiring date of your products.

Will you be rocking a lipstick or lip gloss today.
