Using Your Holiday Break to De-Stress and Recharge

Using Your Holiday Break to De-Stress and Recharge
  • PublishedNovember 20, 2025

Whether you’ve carved out a long weekend or finally bagged that well‑earned holiday, you deserve more than just “rest.” You deserve to savour every moment, recharge your energy, and return feeling lighter and ready for whatever’s next. Time off isn’t just a pause; it’s a reset button.

Here are smart, simple ways to make your break feel like an actual break.

Spend it with those you want to

Life is too short to hang around awkward spaces, have boring conversations, or rub shoulders with difficult relatives.

As adults (especially as parents), we often learn the pleasures of preserving peace. That is why during holiday breaks, you are allowed to be selfish. See whoever you want, at your own convenience, without any trace of guilt or obligation.

DND Mode

Emails creeping on your notification bar, interrupting updates, and unprompted work calls can ruin your relaxation. Even though some calls are more important than others, you don’t get do-overs with holidays.

In preparation for your time off, you can agree to do manageable tasks, i.e., checking emails when convenient, taking a small number of calls. If possible, before booking that trip, have an out-of-office reply for your mobile and email.

Enjoy the arts

Catch a movie, binge that show, listen to your Spotify saves, or finally open that book! Work deadlines and endless quotas have a way of stealing little pieces of us: our spark, our imagination, our playful energy. Downtime is the perfect antidote.

With extra hours on your hands, you can dive into those long‑ignored series or lean into the underrated art of self‑care.

Schedule a trip

For some, work pins you to one place; for others, it’s a constant shuffle from city to city. Either way, a change of scenery, whether a quick bus ride or a flight out, is rarely a bad idea.

Sometimes the best reset is simply swapping your usual for something fresh, and trust me, it’s a choice you won’t regret.

Catch those Z’s

Human beings run on purpose. It is the fuel that keeps us fulfilled for the long haul. But when life is a checklist of obligations, even our sleep can get thrown wildly off balance.

This is why it helps to remember: recharging is maintenance, not laziness. Sneak in a midday nap or call it an early night, your body will thank you, and the reward is a fresher, sharper version of you.

Take an inventory

When we pour all our energy outward, we often forget to save some for ourselves. The passion projects get dusty, and even the way we care for ourselves starts to slip.

The holiday season won’t magically fix that, but it offers a window. A little time spent on the things you love most, or a bit of inner work, can recharge you in a way that feels like a miracle.

Savour the moment

Life moves like lightning in these modern times; news, trends, and updates are all just a swipe away. Technology has evolved, and we’ve evolved right alongside it. That convenience comes with its own cost.

Sometimes the best gift you can give yourself is to pause. To savour the moment as it is: put the screen down, close your eyes, and simply notice your own presence. What does the present feel like?

The holiday break isn’t about productivity. It is about giving yourself permission to pause, breathe, and recharge. Catch up on your shows, sneak in naps, or simply savour the quiet; those small choices add up to a big reset.

So put the work or projects on mute, let the world not spin around you for a moment. Step back into life feeling lighter, brighter, and ready for what’s next.
