KeNHA Announces Temporary Closure of Lanes Along Mayoni–Bungoma Road for Surface Works
  • PublishedJanuary 19, 2026

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced temporary traffic disruptions along the Mayoni–Bungoma Road following planned surface dressing works on a key section of the highway.

In a public notice dated January 12, 2026, and signed by Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli, KeNHA said the dual carriageway between Musikoma Roundabout and Kanduyi Junction along the Mayoni–Bungoma (B139) Road, which connects with the A8, will experience phased lane closures over a two-week period.

According KeNHA, the Kanduyi-bound lane will be temporarily closed from Monday, January 19, 2026, at 6.00 am until Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 6.00 pm. This will be followed by the closure of the Mayoni-bound lane from Monday, January 26, 2026, at 6.00 am to Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 6.00 pm.

KeNHA said the temporary closures are necessary to allow for surface dressing works along the dual section of the road, a maintenance process aimed at improving road durability and safety.

Motorists using the affected section have been advised to exercise caution when approaching work zones and to adhere strictly to the proposed traffic management plan. The authority also urged road users to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed on site to manage traffic flow during the works.

The authority reiterated its commitment to maintaining quality highways and enhancing road safety, noting that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure long-term improvements along the busy corridor.
