ATM guards liaise with fraudster to steal cash

Fraudsters are now liaising with security guards to withdraw stolen money from ATMs. The DCI officials i Thika have nabbed one such fraudster and two security guards with whom he was in cahoots.

The Standard

According to the police, the security guards has codes sent to them by the man who was behind not just a series of ATM frauds, but also fraud related to mobile cash transfer apps like M-Pesa. He sent the two codes which they used to withdraw money from unsuspecting account holders. They would then take their share of the loot and send rest to the suspect. In September alone, the two guards had transferred Ksh 2.2 million to the suspected fraudster.

Yesterday one of the security guards was caught in the act of withdrawing money from an ATM he was manning.
