Babu Owino arrested for shooting DJ on the neck
Police are investigating a 7 am shooting incident at the B Club, involving the Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino.
The lawmaker is said to have allegedly shot a man at the premises on the morning of Friday after an altercation.
The victim of the shooting has been identified as Felix Orinda, who also goes by the name DJ Evolve. He was a DJ as the club. Strangely, the two are said to be close friends, and it was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting.
Felix was shot in the neck after which Babu and the patrons in the club rushed him to Nairobi hospital. The bullet has since been removed, and he remains in a critical but stable condition.
Police, under the Kilimani Sub-county Police boss Lucas Ogara, are looking into the matter, having booked the MP at the Kilimani Police Station. Their efforts to retrieve either firearm or cartridge at the scene of crime has so far been unsuccessful. Babu Owino is said to be a licensed gun holder.
“Detectives based at Kilimani have today arrested Hon Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East following a shooting incident at B Club located along Galana Road within Kilimani. The MP is in lawful custody as further investigations continue,” read a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
The police say they will review the CCTV footage to establish what happened.
Not new to controversy
Babu Owino recently set social media aflame when when he made derogatory remarks against Kandara MP Alice Wahome. However, unprintable insults are Babu Owino’s modus operandi and he has always found great pleasure in insulting people he does not agree with.
Neither is this the first of his many dates with the police, one which involves assaulting a parking attendant.
