Cleanliness and good hygiene are important to the health of every infant. Here are some tips on how to keep your baby clean:

• Before you bath your infant, place everything that you will need within easy reach so you don’t have to leave the baby unattended at any time.

• Only a mild soap should be used on an infant’s skin because it is delicate and susceptible to irritation, dryness and rashes.

• Ensure the water is at the right temperature because your baby’s skin is very sensitive.

• Test the temperature of the bath water with your elbow and not your hand, which is tougher and more resilient to heat.

• Bath your infant in a basin or a plastic infant tub.

• Make bath time, bonding time. If your baby loves water, let him stay in the bath for as long as the water remains warm.

• Wrap the baby with a towel as soon as you have taken him out of the water to avoid the chill.
