“Enjoy a Little Wine, Be Grateful for Life” – World’s Oldest Man Turns 113
João Marinho Neto, officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living man, has turned 113.
Born on October 5, 1912, in Maranguape, Ceará, Brazil, Marinho marked the milestone surrounded by family and friends, who threw him a joyous celebration honoring over a century of memories, resilience, and love.
Guinness World Records also joined in celebrating the occasion with a warm Instagram post:
“Happy 113th birthday to João Marinho Neto, the world’s oldest man. The Brazilian is celebrating this incredible milestone today with a big party his loved ones planned for him.”
Marinho has embraced his title as the oldest living man since November of last year, following the passing of the UK’s John Tinniswood at age 112. At the time, he was 112 years and 52 days old, a record verified by LongeviQuest, a global organization that tracks validated longevity records.
Now 113, Marinho holds the extraordinary distinction of being the last surviving man born in 1912—a rare living link to a bygone era.
Speaking to People, Marinho shared the simple philosophy that has guided him through more than a century of life:
“Living peacefully, enjoying a little wine, and always being grateful for life,” he said. He added that laughter and faith have carried him through life’s ups and downs, and that he feels “happy and thankful every single day.”
Marinho’s remarkable life spans some of history’s most defining moments. Born the same year the Titanic sank, he grew up during two world wars and has lived to witness everything from the moon landing to the rise of smartphones. Despite the sweeping changes around him, he remains known for his calm demeanor, humble spirit, and deep love for his family, qualities his relatives say have kept him young at heart.
Videos of Marinho’s birthday celebration have already been shared online, drawing admiration and good wishes from fans around the world.
