Every once in a while, some downtime and TLC is in order!

In case you’re checking into a spa for a mani-pedi, facial, massage or hair treatment, we spoke to skin and beauty expert Domiana Mwangangi of Rikot Beauty Spa located in Nairobi, Westlands for some of her top recommendations. Thank us later!

‘The Spa Manicure’

This is not your typical run of the mill salon treatment. First of all, it’s longer. Additionally, it incorporates many more products that would be harder to find within a regular mani-pedi. Domiana advises on a paraffin wax treatment.

“ The Paraffin wax treatment mositurises the skin, making it look and feel healthier. I’d recommend the Therabath warm paraffin wax treatment. Its fast acting, drug free and provides heat therapy for conditions such as arthritis!

Hair Masque Treatment

This is deep conditioning treatment for the hair. Domiana recommends a masque that is applicable every two weeks as this will help increase and retain moisture in the hair.

A hair masque should also help prevent breakage frizz and make the hair soft and shiny. Be sure to ask for a consultation before you apply any product, as this will help the beautician identify the best product for your hair type.

Anti-aging Treatment

As we grow older, the skin loses moisture and elasticity, go figure! The skin gets thinner and dryer and less plump leaving it exposed to more aggressions hence lines and wrinkles.

In addition to a good facial opening up circulation while shedding dead skin, an anti-ageing facial is essential especially if your age is ‘starting to show’-if you know what we mean!

Domiana recommends a skin consultation from time to time, as this will advise on choice of products for treatments, especially if you have skin conditions such as acne or sensitive skin. Some treatments could last from several days to weeks. Consistency, she says, is key for those gorgeous gob-smacking results.
