One of the downsides of cancer treatment is loss of hair especially during chemotherapy. But this is a small price to pay if you are going to get better. Find solace in knowing that hair loss due to chemotherapy is temporary and your hair will grow back as soon as the treatment stops. Here are hairstyles to consider as you wait for your hair to grow back.

They say you never miss the water until the well runs dry and when it comes to our hair, the statement can only be true. Often times, we take our hair for granted and its significance only becomes real when we lose it. For cancer patients who have to undergo chemotherapy, chances of losing one’s hair are high as hair loss is one of the side effects of chemotherapy. During chemotherapy, rapidly dividing cells – whether healthy or cancerous – are destroyed. Hair follicles, which are responsible for hair growth, are among the fastest growing cells in the human body. As the chemotherapy treatment works against cancer cells, it also destroys the hair cells leading to loss of some or all of one’s hair. Once the treatment is over, your hair will begin to grow. Meanwhile, here are your options as you transition back to full head of hair.

Turbans and scarves: If you are not into wigs, your other options would be turbans and scarves, which come in a variety of shapes and materials that will leave you spoilt for choice. They are also affordable allowing you to load up for matching with whatever outfit you desire to wear. There are many tutorials available online on the different styles of tying scarves for that chic look.

Hats, caps and beanies: Just like turbans and scarves, these too come in many varieties; there is simply something for everything. Go for hats, caps or beanies that fit properly. Add colour and style to your cap or hat with an overlay tie.

Bald, bold and beautiful: Thing is, the options outlined above are not everyone’s cup of tea and you may prefer to go out all bald. It may feel awkward at first but you will get used to it. Wear your baldness with a sense of security and pride for it is an indication that cancer has nothing on you!

Wigs: For the longest time, wigs have been the go-to hairstyle for chemotherapy patients as they are convenient. Opt for a wig that fits well, is comfortable to wear and looks natural. There is also the option of custom making your wig to match your style, length and colour. Currently, there are wigs made with caps of mesh lace, which makes them cool, flexible and light. Prices of wigs will vary depending on quality hence it’s a good idea to first determine how much you can afford to spend.
