The current drought has hit the country hard resulting to scarcity of food and other scorching effects. Many households are surviving on one meal a day which is probably the reason why a 33-year-old man resorted to feed his family game meat.

Mr. Sammy Mwenda was arrested  while ferrying three animal carcasses of the lesser kudu suspected to have been hunted from the Meru National Park.

While appearing before court, Mr. Mwenda pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him saying he did it to fend for his starving family.

“I pray for forgiveness since I was doing it to fend for my family. I have a large family and I am struggling to make ends meet,” said Mr. Mwenda.

The case will be mentioned on April 24 where the court will receive a report on Mr. Mwenda.
