The Kenyan government is planning to introduce Covid-19 vaccines for teens to increase the number of young adults getting vaccinated. The move is set to be rolled out after evaluating data from the Pfizer vaccine by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) which will be used to guide the Ministry of Health on how to properly administer the vaccines.
Speaking to the press, Dr. Willis Akhwale, the chairman of the national task force on Covid-19 deployment said, “The PPB is reviewing data that Pfizer used to get approved by US Food and Drug Authority. If it’s satisfied, they will amend the emergency use approval earlier issued and advise us accordingly.”
A few countries such as Cuba, United Arab Emirates and China have already introduced the Covid vaccines for children between the ages of five and 11. This was in light of Pfizer stating that their vaccines have shown 90.7 per cent of efficacy against the virus in a clinical trial.
