Police in Nairobi are investigating the death of a 25-year-old man who fell from the 14th floor of an apartment in Kilimani on Sunday morning, in what detectives suspect may have been a domestic dispute turned fatal.

The victim, identified as Festus Lee Oromo, died on the spot after plunging from the balcony of a short-stay unit on Kindaruma Road, Kilimani, Nairobi

According to police reports, Festus had checked into the apartment on Friday, November 28, with a 48-year-old woman, identified as his girlfriend, intending to spend the weekend together.

The two were later joined by a male friend on Saturday night, and the trio reportedly spent the evening drinking before the friend left early on Sunday.

Investigators say an argument broke out between the couple shortly after the friend’s departure. Preliminary findings suggest a violent confrontation occurred inside the apartment, with detectives describing the scene as being in disarray, consistent with a struggle.

It is during this altercation that the woman allegedly pushed Festus over the balcony railing.

Neighbours and security guards reported hearing a loud thud before discovering the man’s body lying on the roof of a parked car in the building’s parking lot.

When officers from Kilimani Police Station arrived at the apartment, they found the woman asleep inside the disordered unit. She was arrested at the scene.

Detectives recovered several empty alcohol bottles and assorted substances from the apartment, which have been taken for forensic analysis.

A post-mortem conducted afterwards confirmed that the victim sustained severe head, chest, and abdominal injuries, along with multiple fractures, consistent with a high-impact fall from a significant height.

Police have launched a wider investigation to reconstruct the events leading up to the fall. Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are also tracing the male friend who left earlier that morning, believing his statement will be crucial in establishing the full sequence of events.

The woman is currently in police custody and is expected to be presented in court as detectives seek more time to complete their investigations. Authorities are treating the case as a suspected homicide pending further evidence.
