KNEC Activates 2025 KCSE Results Checker Ahead of January 2026 Release
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially activated the online portal for checking the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) provisional results. This move, confirmed on January 6, 2026, serves as a preparatory step to ensure the system can handle the massive web traffic expected when the results are formally released to the public.
While the portal is live, the council has clarified that actual results will only be visible once the Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Ogamba, makes the official announcement.
Expected release date
Following a wave of speculation, CS Julius Ogamba dismissed rumours that the results had already been leaked. He confirmed that the Ministry is adhering to the traditional timeline, with the official release scheduled for the second week of January 2026, likely before January 15.
“The KCSE examination results will be released within the next two weeks. Traditionally, the KCSE examinations are normally announced in January, and we are keeping it to that tradition,” stated CS Ogamba.
How to check your KCSE 2025 results
Once the results are declared official, candidates and parents can access them through three primary methods:
The official KNEC portal
This is the most detailed way to view results. It allows candidates to see a full breakdown of their performance in each subject.
-
Step 1: Visit the KNEC Results Portal.
-
Step 2: Enter your Index Number.
-
Step 3: Select the examination year (2025).
-
Step 4: Click submit to view and print your provisional results slip.
SMS service
For those with limited internet access, the SMS service is the quickest option.
Send your Index Number to the code 20076. Note that this service usually costs a charge per SMS and is available on Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom networks.
Physical collection at schools
Individual schools will receive hard copies of the result printouts and result slips. Candidates are advised to visit their respective examination centres a few days after the official announcement to collect these documents.
Warning against scams
KNEC and the Ministry of Education have cautioned the public against grade-fixing scams and fake websites claiming to have leaked the 2025 results. Parents and students are urged to rely only on official channels. Additionally, the Ministry reiterated that school ranking remains banned to prevent unhealthy competition.
