A man identified as Naftali Kinuthia is said to have lured the student out of the hospital where she was busy doing her practicals before waging the brutal attack  witnessed by horrified members of the public.

After the attack, the man tried to flee but an angry mob chased him down and tried to lynch him. It took the intervention of police who rescued him from the angry mob. He sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at MTRH.

The University VC Isaac Kosgei condemned the incident and urged the students to remain calm as the university liaises with security personnel.

“It is a very sad day for us. This morning we lost one of us to an attack by an unknown assailant….We are working with the security forces to piece together what happened and we will update you in time…I want to request all of you to remain calm,” he said.
