Detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have this morning arrested Mathira member of parliament Hon. Rigathi Gachagua in what is thought to be connected to a Ksh 12 billion scandal that the MP is associated with. Gachagua was seized from his Nyeri home at 6.00 a.m on Friday and driven to DCI headquarters in Nairobi.

The vocal MP is suspected of fraudulently obtaining tenders worth Ksh 12 Billion through over 40 companies that are associated with him.

Gachagua's arrest comes eight months after the Serious Fraud Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations detained and questioned him regarding claims of fraud.

The arrest has attracted reactions from different politicians with nominated Senator Millicent Omanga describing the arrest "as a sign of bad things to come"

Gachagua on his part has rubbished the corruption allegations against him describing the allegations as " baseless accusations" to intimidate him for his political stand.
