Robbers are said to have broke into Habib Bank in Nairobi using the backdoor. They proceeded into the second floor of the building and disabled the alarm and the CCTV surveillance cameras before getting into the banking area.

According to Nairobi County Commander Joseph Ole Tito the robbers used papers to block the bank’s tinted glass windows so that security guards could not see what was happening. They then used gas cylinders to break into safes and made away with an unknown amount of money

He added.

They took their time because we have found food leftovers meaning they even had the time to eat inside the bank. They have really done a lot of destruction inside there, but they did not manage to get into the strong room.

These showed how they were not in a hurry to get what they wanted

The thugs ate and left leftovers in disposable plates on the counters and floors. Some of the meals included githeri, beef, chicken, rice and chips.

Police suspect that the incident was an inside job.

This must be an inside job, by people who knew how to access the bank through the rear gate, the location of the CCTV cameras, the alarm, the safes and the strong room.

Recently thuggery has been on the rise. January thugs disguised as nuns drugged a forex bureau attendant and stole Sh 2 million in Nairobi’s Karen area. And last November, thugs dug a tunnel into Kenya Commercial Bank in Thika and stole Sh50 million.
