Outrage Over Curvy Ugandan Women Tourist Attraction Proposal
In a bid to boost its tourism offerings, Ugandan Ministry of Tourism has added curvy and sexy women to its list of tourism attractions.
The ministry yesterday unveiled a beauty pageant dubbed Miss Curvy Uganda which will forsee the selection of women to promote tourism in Uganda. The finalists will be selected inJune this year.
“We have naturally endowed nice looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” said Godfrey Kiwanda, Uganda Minister for Tourism.
Kiwanda’s comments immediately received backlash from the public with women terming the proposal as dehumanising and called for the minister resignation.
We totally condemn the continued repression of women rights by @KiwandaSsuubi who is a sexist and is objectifying women of Uganda by considering them freak show tourist attractions like Sarah Baartman in the 19th Century. #WomenNotSexObjects pic.twitter.com/lgkwHTu5Mm

#Uganda NATIONAL NEWS,
1. Will these tourists come see and go?
2. Will they see & pay?
3. Will they see, touch&feel these curves?
4. How much are we looking at anyway?
5. Who will they pay to?
6. Will it reflect in their Visas tht they came to see curves?

Controversy aside, Kiwanda should balance the boat by showcasing #Uganda‘s endowed men! Activists have a point but forget that skinny women are used as models to promote company products. Why have they been silent? ‘Curvy women’ comments prompt backlash https://t.co/herDsqCCJU
