• Sweets and cakes made from breakfast cereals like the Cerevita cookies are also popular and quick to prepare.

KITCHEN SAFETY:

Cleaning and disinfection in the kitchen is very important as it creates a pleasant and safe environment; reduces contamination as clean, disinfected surfaces will not allow bacterial growth; and discourages pests such as cockroaches and f lies, which like dirty places and spilt foods. Empty boxes and waste foods provide good breeding ground for pests.

To allow disinfection to take place you have to clean the surfaces well with a detergent before applying a disinfectant. It is important to use detergents and disinfectants together as detergents only remove dirt and grease, while disinfectants kill bacteria.

You could also use a sanitizer, which is a mixture of detergent and disinfectant. You can also ensure kitchen hygiene through sterilization, which involves boiling or heating kitchen utensils and surfaces at high temperatures to destroy bacteria. However, this is only feasible on stainless steel utensils as it is likely to damage surfaces made of synthetic materials.
