The Starehe Girls Centre has today been closed indefinitely following the outbreak of a strange disease.

52 students have been taken ill and quarantined following infection of the disease. Some symptoms of the disease are high pitch coughing, sneezing and fever.

The school’s director has however said that the condition is minor and the results are expected today.

” The ailing students have since been isolated for observation within the school. Samples have been obtained for various tests. Their parents have been informed and the school is in constant communication with them,” a statement from the school reads.

On Sunday, a video where students from the school were coughing uncontrollably circulated all over social media, raising speculations.

A seriously contagious disease has descended in Starehe Girls high school. Students coughing uncontrollably like monkeys. Ministry of Health @MOH_Kenya is yet to issue a statement. Are you aware of this or you are hearing from me right here? pic.twitter.com/BUxPEQsagO

The  decision to send home the students was reached after the Ministry of Education held talks with the school.
