Soft-spoken Stephen Talitwala, founding vice-chancellor of Daystar University, tells EDNA GICOVI the remarkable story of his life, from tending cotton in Jinja, Uganda, to pursuing his engineering dream and becoming the university’s first vice-chancellor, and now seeking clear guidance from God on retirement.

It’s late afternoon on a cloudy Saturday in August. I’m in the passenger seat of an old green station wagon speeding on Mombasa Road, engrossed in an interesting conversation about corporate social responsibility with the driver while occasionally playing with the little boy seated behind me.
