TikTok Bans Over 60,000 Accounts in Q2 2024 to Enhance User Safety
On Wednesday, November 13, TikTok unveiled its Q2 2024 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, highlighting the platform’s ongoing efforts to ensure a safe and positive user experience.
The report revealed that TikTok banned a total of 60,465 accounts for violating its Community Guidelines. Notably, 57,262 of these accounts were removed for being suspected users under the age of 13.
“With over a billion users and millions of pieces of content posted daily, TikTok continues to invest in advanced technologies that enhance content understanding and assess potential risks. These innovations allow the platform to detect and remove harmful content before it reaches viewers,” the platform announced.
In Kenya, over 360,000 videos—representing 0.3% of the total uploaded during the reporting period—were removed for guideline violations. Impressively, 99.1% of these videos were proactively taken down before user reports, with 95% removed within 24 hours.
Globally, TikTok removed more than 178 million videos in June 2024 alone, with 144 million eliminated using automated systems.
TikTok’s proactive detection rate has risen to 98.2% globally, underscoring its effectiveness in addressing harmful content. By automating much of the moderation process, the platform reduces the workload and exposure of human moderators to inappropriate material.
“As TikTok continues to invest in cutting-edge moderation technologies, its commitment to transparency and platform safety remains at the forefront, ensuring a secure environment for its diverse user base across Kenya and globally,” TikTok affirmed.
This emphasis on proactive measures reflects TikTok’s dedication to creating a safer digital space for its users worldwide.
