If you find yourself searching the medicine cabinet for antacids because of heartburn especially after a heavy meal, you can try another way to avoid it. If you experience nighttime heartburn, curl up on your left side or lie on your back. Because of the way the oesophagus is positioned, sleeping on your right side increases the amount of stomach acid that flows upward, so avoid that position. You can place something on the side of bed you want to avoid, as a trigger to roll back over when you want to turn.
