Yesterday, a spate of strong winds was experienced in and around the city bringing down billboards and trees. The weatherman has warned that the winds of 20 meters per second are bound to continue for the next 5 days in Nairobi, Central and Kajiado.

“This system is moving from the Coastal Kenya as it propagates inland toward South East low lands, Nairobi and Central parts of Kenya. The system is characterized by strong South easterly winds of about 15-20 Knots, updraft and downdraft winds with heavy convective rains. Areas around Nairobi was due to a localized storm due to unstable atmosphere. We are monitoring it,” read a tweet from the meteorological department.

Heavy Rainfall

“Heavy rainfall (more than 30mm) will be experienced in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia and Baringo with moderate rains expected in Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and Murang’a,” said Stella Aura, the acting director of the meteorological department.

Rising temperatures

The five day forecast will see temperatures in the Coastal region rising to 30 degrees Celsius and 38 degrees for Garissa and Isiolo.

The department has warned Kenyans to avoid areas with trees and billboards.
