The number of African countries with confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen to 14, Ghana and Gabon joined the World Health Organization’s initial list of 12. These are the latest tallies according to WHO African region, as of March 12.

South Africa’s cases have since risen to 16 and Africa countries are now in a rush to implement containment measures against the disease that WHO has now declared a pandemic.

Globally, there are more than 130,000 confirmed cases, and more than 60,000 have recovered. The locus of the disease  China, is now reporting fewer new infections and deaths. Italy is now one of the worst hit, with over 1,000 deaths and an overwhelmed medical system.
