Ruth Matete's father comes clear on son-in-law's death
Abel Amunga, the father to the 2012 Tusker Project Fame winner Ruth Matete, has opened up on his son-in-law’s death. Speaking during a radio interview with Massawe Japanni, the 57-year-old explained the circumstances surrounding the death of John Apewajoye.
Matete’s husband, Apewajoye, succumbed to injuries from a fire incident at their home. This caused mixed reactions, including one that accused her of being involved in her husband’s death.
“That rumour hurt me the most especially since it was from people who were close to her and her husband,” Mr Amunga said.
The actor referenced a video that was released showing an argument between Matete and her husband. He said that the video was recorded by Apewajoye’s best-man, who was staying with them before their wedding.
“That argument ensued even before the wedding,” Ruth’s father clarified.
According to Mr Amunga, arguments between couples are normal. However, he questioned the best man’s motive of recording the video and releasing it immediately after John’s death.
Mr Amunga confirmed that his daughter was first to learn of her husband’s death. He was receiving treatment at Kenyatta Hospital, before his demise.
“I have blood pressure, so she did not break the news to me immediately. She told me to meet her the hospital to help her fill some forms. On arrival, I found her crying and I just knew that he had died,” he said.
