Fire destroys 40-50% of Garissa County Assembly

A fire outbreak at the Garissa County Assembly has left property of unknown value destroyed.

The incident which began at around 8:30am, has destroyed the county assembly chambers, offices of Members of County Assembly(MCA’s) and other offices in the premises.

Mohamed Ali, the Garissa county assembly minority leader, has said that the fire has destroyed about 40-50% of the county assembly.

“At the moment we cannot ascertain the cause of the fire. But it has destroyed 40-50% of the County Assembly. The County Assembly chambers and a whole building that hosted almost 25 departmental committees and relevant offices are almost completely destroyed,” he said.

The arsonists’ intentions are not clear. However, in every incident, they have left an amateur drawing of two people and a cross as their sign, after an attack.

The county fire department, military and other teams were on ground to contain the fire. Investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire are underway.
