Gender CS Condemns Viral Video, Pledges Justice for Marion Naipei
Gender and Affirmative Action Cabinet Secretary Hanna Cheptumo has issued a stern condemnation following the circulation of a viral video showing a woman, identified as Marion Naipei, in a vulnerable and intoxicated state at a Nairobi entertainment joint.
In a statement released on Sunday, the CS characterised the recording and subsequent sharing of the video as a serious violation of human rights, emphasising that the Kenyan Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to dignity, privacy, and bodily autonomy.
The video, which sparked nationwide outrage, depicts Ms Naipei in a semi-conscious state while a man, reportedly a Kenyan resident visiting from the United States, lifts her clothing to expose her nudity.
“The Ministry reaffirms that the dignity of every person is inviolable,” CS Cheptumo stated. “Any conduct that undermines these rights, whether through action, omission or digital transmission, is unacceptable. The circumstances raise grave concerns regarding consent and responsible conduct.”

Speaking out for the first time since the incident, a heartbroken Marion Naipei shared the devastating impact the video has had on her life.
“I feel like my life is falling apart,” she said in an emotional apology to Kenyans. “I am hurting. You exposed me, and now my life will never be the same again.”
The Ministry of Gender has confirmed it is coordinating with relevant agencies to investigate the individuals behind the recording and distribution of the clip. CS Cheptumo urged the public to stop sharing the video.
The CS also used the platform to address a rising tide of gender-based violence (GBV), citing a separate recent incident where a man in Busia was scalded with hot water. She reiterated that the law protects all Kenyans regardless of gender.
