Government proposes to revive the recruitment of street children to NYS
The Government is proposing to revive the recruitment of street children into the National Youth Service (NYS) after the process was stopped in 2009.
Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, Ukur Yattani, said there are about 42,000 street families in the country and emphasised need to rehabilitate them.
CS Yattani was speaking to the press when he officially opened an induction workshop for the newly appointed Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund Board of Trustees at Lake Naivasha Resort.
The CS urged the Board to draft policies that will guide implementation of the rehabilitation of street families, develop the National Street Families Bill and a Street Families Trust Fund Strategic Plan
The Board’s chairperson Linah Jebii Kilimo, promised to deal with issues affecting street families at once.
