How Small Hits of Natural Dopamine Can Prevent Burnout
  • PublishedJanuary 4, 2026

Dopamine isn’t just a chemical secretion responsible for happiness; it is also responsible for how the body implements motivation and anticipation. Here’s how small hits of natural dopamine can prevent burnout.

The solar starburst

The sun, in small and large ways, is a friend to all. It is responsible for photosynthesis, vitamin D secretion, and the production of dopamine. This dopamine release sets cortisol rhythms in balance, reducing the body’s predisposition to hair loss, accumulation of visceral fat, and hypertension.

Additionally, starting your day with a dopamine high reduces cravings and distractions from alternative sources of dopamine. Even though for an optimum release of dopamine 30 minutes is recommended, a short 5-10 minute solar bask will have a similar effect.

Task completion as a natural remedy

Whether it is the arrangement of stationery or the run for short errands, completion of little tasks sends a ‘well done’ notification to the brain. Which triggers the release of dopamine.

It is easy to fall into the trap of dispatching more than one task at once, but that doesn’t lead to excess dopamine release; it just leads to the strain that comes from burnout.

Cold exposure for dopamine secretion

Exposure to cold temperatures, either through ending your shower with a trickle of cold water or dipping your face in an icy tub, increases dopamine levels by up to 250%.

According to a study by PhDr. Petr Šrámek, in his article: ‘Human physiological responses to immersion into water of different temperatures.’ Not only does this enhance the general feel-good experience, but it also increases fortitude to psychological pressure in the long run.

Dopamine is a critical puzzle piece to the overall human experience. When it comes to what gives our lives meaning or our careers, these tips are important to tackling the burnout enigma.
