How to check your KCSE 2025 Results
  • PublishedJanuary 9, 2026

The results for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) have been officially released today, Friday, January 9, 2026. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba presided over the release at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret, marking a historic moment as one of the final cohorts under the 8-4-4 system.

Here is the updated, comprehensive guide on how to check your results and what to do next.

How to check KCSE 2025 results

Candidates and parents can access the results through three official channels. Due to high traffic on release day, it is recommended to try the SMS method first for instant feedback.

The Official KNEC Portal

This is the most detailed method and allows you to view a full breakdown of grades per subject.

Step 1: Visit the official KNEC Results Portal.

Step 2: Enter your Index Number.

Step 3: Enter your Name exactly as it appears on your registration slip.

Step 4: Select the examination year (2025).

Step 5: Submit to view and download your provisional results slip.

SMS Service

If you have limited internet or the portal is slow, use the mobile SMS service available on Safaricom, Airtel, and Telkom.

Compose a new message with your Index Number followed by the word KCSE (e.g., 12345678901KCSE).

Send the message to 20076.

Each SMS costs KSh 25. Be patient; it may take a few minutes to receive a reply during peak hours.

Physical Collection & New Certificate Policy

Individual schools will receive hard copies of the result printouts within a few days.

Important change

To prevent schools from withholding certificates over fee arrears, the Ministry has directed that KCSE certificates will now be collected from Sub-County Education Offices rather than the schools.

2025 results highlights

Approximately 993,000 candidates sat for the exams. Out of these, 270,000 scored a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying for direct university entry.

A total of 1,932 candidates scored a straight A.

New grading system

The grading focused on two compulsory subjects (Mathematics and the best of English/Kiswahili/Sign Language) plus the five other best-performed subjects to maximise student career paths.

Warning against scams

KNEC has cautioned the public against grade-fixing scams on platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram. Official results are only available through the 20076 code and the KNEC portal.

Note that school ranking remains banned to promote a healthy learning environment.
