Education Cabinet Secreyary George Magoha has announced a change in school reopening dates from August 11 to August 15. In a press statement released on Wednesday, the CS explained that the change of dates was due to an anticipated delay in the vote tallying process.

“On 1st August 2022, I ordered the early closure of all Basic Education Institutions to allow for adequate preparation and conduct of the General Elections. We indicated that reopening would be on the 11th of August 2022.”

“We have however been informed that the process of tallying of ballots may still be ongoing on the aforementioned date. Therefore, following further consultations, I hereby convey the Government’s decision that Basic Education Institutions will re-open from Monday, 15th August, 2022,”read the statement.

Magoha had earlier announced a sudden closure of schools to allow for voting to go especially since most public schools are gazetted polling stations. The announcement, however, caused an uproar among parents prompting the CS to issue an apology to the disgruntled parents.
