Man caught on video assaulting wife handed 12 year jail sentence

A Makueni court has handed Daudi Nzomo, the man filmed assaulting his wife, Winfred Mwende, a 12-year jail sentence.

According to Senior Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki, he considered Nzomo’s history of violence as shown in his criminal record.

Police in Makueni arrested  Nzomo on the 2nd of August after the video went viral. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered for his arrest.

Nzomo was charged with causing grievous body harm to his spouse and pleaded guilty to the offence before Senior Resident Magistrate James Mwaniki.

Nzomo’s wife, Winfred, was moved from Makueni Level 4 hospital to Nairobi Women’s Hospital for further treatment.
