New KNEC leadership as Karogo exits
Dr. David Njeng’ere is the new chief executive officer of the Kenya National Examinations council after taking the batton from Dr. Mercy Karogo’s in a hand-over ceremony held at KNEC headquarters in Nairobi.
Dr. Njeng’ere was appointed on 9th June 2021 by education cabinet secretary professor George Magoha and will serve as KNEC’s CEO for a term of 5 years.
In his new role as the KNEC boss, Dr. Njeng’ere will be tasked with continuing the reforms started by Dr.Karogo who took over office in 2016. Dr. Karogo was part of a team appointed by the then education cabinet secretary Dr.Fred Matiangi to implement reforms in the the supervision and marking of Kenya certification of secondary education that had been marred by irregularities in 2015.

Prior to his appointment, Njeng’ere was the education advisor to the cabinet secretary in the minstry of education. The hand over ceremony was witnessed by education CS professor Magoha and PS for Early Learning and Basic Education Dr. Julius Jwan.
